Uche Ignites Straightforward Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Missing star players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding result that virtually secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further victory in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS ought to be sufficient to secure direct entry to the last 16, particularly after a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Moment
This match offered a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
The Shelbourne side that had finished their domestic season were outmatched even for a largely second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Control Established from the Start
In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee dismissed the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring his first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
